Qantas Drive
| Location | This is a small park and cycle path on the banks of the canal on northern side of Qantas Drive. There is a gate in the ARMCO fence approximately 150 metres west of the Qantas Jet Base entrance. There is an unbroken median strip in the road so you need to approach from the west. |
| View | At this location you are looking west towards the Runway 16R approach. If you walk along the pathway towards the approach lighting you can stand directly under the flight path for Runway 16 Right. |
| Equipment | Nothing is required for approach shots. A very high fine mesh security perimeter fence has now been erected, making photography impossible from the grass footpath just outside the fence. |
| Photography | Excellent in the morning for short final shots and you can shoot from directly below the flight path. |

Sunday 26th October 2008 - Looking east towards the Qantas Jet
base. There is plenty of parking and the gate into this location can be
seen on the left below. Also visible is the very high fine mesh security perimeter
fence making it impossible to photograph through or over.

with a 5 step ladder.

Sunday 26th October 2008 - A common sight on the other side
of the fence are the two British Airways aircraft that operate the morning
BA9 and BA15 services into Sydney, in this case Boeing 777 G-YMMO and Boeing
747-400 G-BNLR.

Sunday 26th October 2008 - Looking west along Qantas Drive towards
the Air Cargo facility and you can see that the very high
security fence goes all the way along.

Closer view of the Air Cargo facility. Usual visitors are Atlas, FedEx, UPS, Singapore and Korean.

Sunday 26th October 2008 - A large advertising sign has just
been erected at the eastern end of the car park, this has only been
built since the first Qantas A380 arrived on the 21st September 2008. All the
trees in the car park have been removed so that
passing cars have a clear view of the sign, however there is now no shade available
on those hot days.

Sunday 26th October 2008 - The shadow from the new sign spreads
across the car park. If you are photographing near the fence
you need to be very careful of passing cyclists, some of them can be traveling
fairly fast.

Sunday 26th October 2008 - Looking west along the canal from
the fence in the previous image towards the end of the approach
lighting. The cycleway follows the fence on the left of this image and you can
walk right along to a point under the flight path.
