Eastern Park

Location The Eastern Park is located alongside Ross Smith Avenue on the northern side of the Runway 25 threshold. There are several parking areas on the opposite side of the road to the perimeter fence, all of which are marked as "No Standing", however I have never seen anyone moved on from here.
View

At this location you are looking south at the aircraft approaching Runway 25 and they pass by very low on short final. Front quarter, profile and rear quarted shots are possible here, and with a ladder on the footpath near the perimeter fence you can shoot excellent nose on shots as aircraft taxi along Golf to the holding points for Runway 25. There are a couple of heavy jet parking spaces on the apron and corporate jets park outside the Hawker Pacific and Execujet hangers.

Equipment Nothing is required for approach shots, however a 3 or 5 step ladder is required to photograph above the perimeter fence height. There is a narrow grass footpath here with video surveillance and security will probably move you on for not being back the required 3 metres.
Photography Excellent most of the day for short final shots and you can shoot from directly below the flight path. A three or five step ladder will allow you to shoot over the perimeter fence, and the morning is best for shots of parked aircraft.

Parking is available on the eastern side of Ross Smith Avenue. Although there are "No Standing" signs, I have never seen
anyone moved on for parking in this area. From this point, Ross Smith Avenue continues on the the Heliport, Control Tower
and The "Shep Mound".

This is the perimeter fence on the western side of Ross Smith Avenue. You will need a three or five step ladder to photograph
through or over the barbed wire. You can see a video surveillance camera at the far end of this fence, and airport security will
move you on if you photograph within 3 metres of the perimeter fence. The jet wash deflector inside the fence runs across the
approach to Runway 25, however you can photograph from the high ground on the western side of Ross Smith Avenue.

The view over the Eastern Park from the parking spaces on the western side of Ross Smith Avenue. The hangers on the right
are Hawker Pacific and ExecuJet, and the Air Ambulance hanger is just to the left of these. There is usually a good selection of
corporate jets, air ambulances, light cargo and the occasional heavy visitor (G-IV VH-NCP and FedEx N591FE pictured here).

The view from the parking spaces looking directly down the apron extension of taxiway Golf. There are excellent photo
opportunities when Runway 25 is in operation for heavy jets. RAAF B737-7DT BBJs A36001 and A36002 are regular
visitors to the Eastern Park.

Looking across to the threshold of Runway 25 and holding points Golf 4, Golf 5 and Echo. The control tower can be seen in
the distance and the heliport is next to the trees on the left.

The Sydney Heliport which is also home to the Rescue Helicopter service. There are some more helicopter hangers to the right
of this photograph.
