ACARS Google Maps is initialised at midnight each day and then updated every 15
minutes. The
aircraft positions are obtained from the live ACARS data received by the 16Right.com
ACARS system.
Aircraft
equipped with ACARS are constantly transmitting data relating to aircraft performance,
systems status, weather and current position. As well as simple position reports
that contain only latitude and longitude, ACARS AMDAR reports contain the latitude,
longitude, UTC time, altitude, outside air temperature, wind direction, wind speed
and turbulence factor. Qantas Boeing 747-400 and Boeing 767-300 VH-ZX? registered
aircraft transmit AMDAR weather data and clicking on the QF icon will display
all the AMDAR data. Aircraft from other airlines transmit simple position reports.
